Local Attorney Appointed to the City of Naples Ethics Committee
February 9, 2021
John T. Cardillo, of Cardillo Keith Bonaquist P.A., is one of five individuals appointed to the City of Naples Ethics Committee. Cardillo was appointed by Kathleen Smith, the public defender for the 20th Judicial Circuit.
The impetus behind his appointment stemmed from his desire to keep the residents of Naples informed and to ensure that the local government operates within ethical standards.
“I think we have a really good local government and our residents are very informed,” said Cardillo. “What I see this as is an opportunity to improve upon what we currently have.”
The independent ethics board hopes to bring to the city what voters wanted when they approved the referendum by almost 70 percent in August 2020. Under the charter amendment approved by the ethics referendum, the commission is expected to “Develop and draft an amended ethics code,” This approved charter amendment also gives the commission 180 days from its first meeting to make known amendments to the city’s code.
